This month’s news comes to you from the Angstman cabin on Chauekuktuli Lake where this month’s Mandatory Moose made an appearance a little after midnight.

Yes, it is that light after midnight for those unaccustomed to June in Alaska.  It makes it hard for an elder to go to bed at the usual time. A mistake made last September resulted in a trail camera being left on a beach near the cabin.  Fortunately the batteries must have been fresh cause it was still taking photos this spring.   Here are a few of the best.

The camera didn’t work in the coldest months but it is believed there is little animal movement at that time.

Tikchik Narrows Lodge Happenings

Tikchik Narrows Lodge opened a few days ago after some intense preparations by the crew. Former Bethel lawyer Christie Pavia was the first guest to sample a refreshment at the new bar, which is a cedar slab believed to be from British Columbia that drifted to Kodiak Island where is was pulled from the ocean by a local guy who makes driftwood into lumber. A seasoned craftsman named Bill Hoyt fashioned the slab into an artistic bar that is a welcome addition to the new lounge at the lodge. Who ever heard of a fishing lodge without a real bar?

Here are a couple more shots from the expanded lounge which got rave reviews from first week visitors. That one guy reportedly walked off without paying.

Guide Caleb Hofer captured this video near lodge, which appears to be a swimming wolverine.

That is a rare sighting, although the Lodge area has a decent population of the reclusive critters. First week fishing was good, and the most encouraging report was a good number of king salmon caught and released by guests.

ALO Update

Legal work continued despite the retreat to the mountains.  This Anchorage Daily News article describes a lawsuit tecently filed in Bethel. ALO also settled another aircraft case, this one involving a crash at the Juneau airport.  In that case four passengers walked away from a small plane that crashed shortly after takeoff, but all suffered from minor injuries and significant anxiety about flying after the accident.  Another settlement involved a broken leg suffered by a person injured while incarcerated. Such suits are quite common in Alaska. When a person is in jail, the institution is responsible for that person’s safety and well being because their freedom to act is curtailed. ALO has handled dozens of jail cases over the years and at one point it was discovered that the ALO phone number was written on the wall near the inmate phone at one jail. That would be classified as a targeted ad.

Mandatory Moose & Other Characters

Dogs are always favored at ALO.  This one deserves a spot on the news.

Here is a bonus moose because it’s that time of the year.

Josh Fannon works with ALO on most of the cases reported here, and keeps his phone handy for wildlife photos. These were taken right in front of his house in Wasilla.

The Boss Vs. Trump

Bruce Springsteen has come under fire from hard core Trumpers for recent comments he has made.  Listen to what he said and decide for yourself whether it is a true statement.

Despite claiming he would stop all wars on day one, conflicts are raging in several zones and Trump suggests the latest one between Israel and Iran is a good one. He wants a complete military victory and says the US is helping Israel. Watch this clip for some needed context from the great negotiator.

Finally Ada made her first political statement at a gathering in Anchorage.
