The June news comes to you from cool, rainy Alaska where daily showers have turned a dry summer into a wet one. Surprisingly the dry start to summer hasn’t resulted in many fires around Alaska, unlike Minnesota where a large fire threatens the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. There were few lightning storms in Alaska so far which are the primary cause of fires in the rural wilderness areas. Meanwhile Minnesota is hot, dry, and smokey. The summer season is underway in Alaska and for ALO that means opening the lodge and cabin in the wilderness, long hours of daylight, and of course fishing. The lodge got started early with a construction project to repair fire damage from last September. That project moved quickly, and exterior repairs were done in time for the arrival of guests in mid-June. The April news comes to you a bit late from Alaska after 6 weeks on the farm. The farm news as always features nature sightings in abundance. The resident eagle nest resulted in two baby eagles, down one from last year but always fun to watch. Goslings were seen in every pond, and crane colts were also sighted. A less pleasant nature sighting was the discovery of 7 deer carcasses along a quarter mile section of a county road that borders the farm, likely from road kills. Th

This edition of the news comes to you from the Minnesota farm, where wildlife viewing is the primary activity. Arriving in Minnesota in early April coincides with the arrival of migrating birds and the mating activity of resident birds.
